Once again using the particularly strong and unusual construction formed by carefully fitting multiple pieces (quite literally hundreds) of decorative timbers around a precise oval base (as illustrated in the detail photo on this page). Each of these painstakingly fitted blocks are not veneers, but solid pieces carefully scribed together and mounted together to form these highly decorative sides. In this case these sides are formed in English Oak and Ash.
Seldomly seen in classical furniture design, this piece uses the truly rich colours of Plum wood to create the butterfly feature. Only available in very small sections, this timber is ideal for this type of decorative marquetry.
