This stunning construction is formed by carefully fitting multiple pieces (quite literally hundreds) of decorative timbers around a precise oval base (as illustrated in the detail photo on this page). Each of these painstakingly fitted blocks are not veneers, but solid pieces carefully scribed together and mounted together to form these highly decorative sides. The attractive pattern formed in solid oak and mahogany then being further enhanced by the introduction of two distinct sections of Burr wood.
The marquetry of the top, features two perfect flowers formed in Plum Wood, on a rich base of light plum and surrounded by a Mahogany outline band.
There were only 2 boxes made in this design pattern, which not only required huge amounts of patience and skill to form the decorative lid, but also to realise the attractive and technically challenging construction for the box sides.
This particular variation (two lift out trays) of the total of two made, is priced at £550 and would compliment any collection.
