This particular design features a lift out tray. Once again the construction is formed by carefully fitting multiple pieces (quite literally hundreds) of decorative timbers around a precise oval base (as illustrated in the detail photo on this page). Each of these painstakingly fitted blocks are not veneers, but solid pieces carefully scribed together and mounted together to form these highly decorative sides. In this case the design forms a particularly attractive chequer design.
The background marquetry of the lid is rich and deep in colour and is made in multiple pieces of Plum wood. The lid features a central butterfly in the unusual timber of English Holly wood.
