The making of this magnificent piece spanned many months with hundreds of hours of intricate work.
This particular design challenge required exceptionally high degrees of accuracy, similar to those of our best 18th century European cabinet makers, with skills and techniques largely lost to those times. Embarking on this type of project requires a completely different mental approach, one largely lost in our modern world. In this world, time must be measured in weeks not hours, or more sensibly not measured at all.
Comprising of no less than eight trays plus decorative lid, each layer is designed to be accessed directly by lifting-off at the particular level required. The sequence of assembly is cleverly indicated by inset timber diamonds of individual sizes and timbers.
This box would make the most elaborate sewing box or possibly storage cabinet for small collectable items.
