Waterfall Country

- in the Brecon Beacons National Park

Deep within the limestone woodlands of Fforest Fawr is Porth yr Ogof accessed via minor roads from Ystradfellte. This is the heart of Waterfall Country in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Here the River  Mellte is swallowed into the huge gaping entrance of Porth yr Ogof

Downriver, the Afon Mellte forms a series of waterfalls tumbling over limestone cliffs....

Probably the most famous of the four main waterfalls is Sgwd yr Eira, ‘Fall of Snow’.  Here it is possible to follow the slippery, rocky path behind the waterfall and, apart from some spray, remain almost dry as the water tumbles from a 3’ overhanging ledge.
