The Royal Welsh Show 2006

Builth Wells

The Royal Welsh Show 2006 is Wales' premier agricultural show attended by farmers,  craftworkers and the general public.  Throughout each of its four days there is a packed programme of events ranging from cattle judging, sheep sheering, pole climbing bird and rabbit shows to the star attraction of the 'dancing diggers' - choreographed JCBs!

The 2006 Royal Welsh Show was held on 24-27 July 2006.

We had planned to attend to record the main events on this page, in travel guides and journals and in freelance articles but instead spent the week flat out recovering from quite severe heat exhaustion following the heatwave.  It's the first show missed in years and we were extremely disappointed that we were unable to be there....

However, we are looking forward already to the 2007 show - the Royal Welsh is one of the best shows of its type and we hope the weather will be cooler next July.

For now, here are just a few of the photos taken during the 2005 Show:

The 2005 show was held on 18-21 July at the Royal Welsh Showground off the A470 at Builth Wells.

Some of the highlights from Monday's Show:-

Hereford Bull awaiting judging in the Cattle Ring -

A winning ram -

Angora Goats posing for judging -

My Curly Perm...

Sheep Shearing Competition -

* Star Turn *

The Show-Stopping Dancing Diggers

- the 7 tonne alternative ballerinas which earlier performed  'Spinning Around'  to Kylie....

(unfortunately, the high resolution 150mb video clip was too large to share on this page - hopefully S4C will show it instead!)

(click on the photo to view a distant low-resolution video clip - disappointingly we didn't manage to secure a particularly good vantage point for the highlight of the show)
