Cosmeston Lakes and Country Park, between Penarth and Lavernock Point, was originally a limestone quarry which became flooded by underground springs when quarrying ceased.  The site was landscaped to become a tranquil haven for wildlife.  The lakes and woodlands are open to visitors daily throughout the year - except Christmas Day.

Adjacent to the lakes, Cosmeston mediaeval village, set in 1350, has been reconstructed on the site of a former 14th century settlement discovered in the 1980's.  Today, the village provides a fascinating glimpse into life in the Middle Ages.  Costumed guides inside the buildings and throughout the village describe their mediaeval role and mediaeval lifestyle as they work in the buildings and on the land.  On 'Mediaeval Fair' days, there are jousting displays and traditional village stores.
