Reconstructed Iron Age roundhouses - built on the foundations of their Iron Age predecessors

The Chieftain's House

Home comforts in the Old Roundhouse

Castell Henllys is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with reconstructed  roundhouses built upon the original foundations of their genuine Iron Age predecessors.

Starting with the 'Old Roundhouse', three further thatched roundhouses have been reconstructed and furnished in Iron Age style - the Earthwatch, Smithy and Chieftain's House plus other structures and the Granary.

The site on a hillfort near Felindre in the  Pembrokeshire National Park was used by the BBC in its 'Surviving the Iron Age' documentary series when volunteers shed the comforts of the 20th century to step back in time over 2000 years and follow an Iron Age lifestyle.

Today, day visitors are welcomed but, if you fancy testing your survival skills and trying out the Iron Age lifestyle for yourself, for a week or weekend, then visit Cinderbury Iron Age village in the Royal Forest of Dean.

Castell Henllys will be included in our future Pembrokeshire Guide to be published in 2006.
